If you think imposter syndrome is just a made up excuse to keep women in business down, think again.

If you struggle to manage your time effectively, then you might be unwittingly struggling with imposter syndrome .

In fact, imposter syndrome is a huge challenge among high-achievers everywhere (not just women!) from actors, to scientists and authors. But entrepreneurs get the worst of it, self-reporting imposter syndrome at a staggering 84%. Perhaps entrepreneurs feel it so prevalently because they need to navigate the complexities of building their ventures.

Can you relate?

Regardless of why it occurs, imposter syndrome is not just a little whisper of self-doubt. No. Self-doubt is natural in any new endeavor. We outgrow self-doubt through experience, and it doesn't need to hold us back.

But now that other thing--imposter syndrome--is another matter altogether!

Imposter syndrome is the overwhelming certainty that we are undeserving of the credibility and success we've worked hard to achieve.

You do all the things, and yet no experience seems to be enough to grow your confidence in your ability.

I'm a fraud!

That is the root of imposter syndrome: the persistent feeling of being a fraud, despite evidence to the contrary. It's like a shadow following you, making you doubt yourself and your abilities. And it is robbing you of the energy and time you need to run and grow your business.

Unveiling the Inner Struggle: Understanding the Grip of Imposter Syndrome

If you suspect you have imposter syndrome, there are two things you need to know:

  1. You're not alone. Imposter syndrome is incredibly common, especially among high achievers like you. Whether you're just starting your entrepreneurial journey or pivoting your business, feeling uncertain and scared is par for the course.

  2. It's not your fault. Imposter syndrome hits people who have risen to a new level and are in some way "first, only or different" when they look around at their peers.

When you understand those two things, it is much easier to stop believing the inner critic telling us we are not enough and we will never measure up. Instead we can get busy being bold and courageous, learning from our setbacks and taking considered risks.

The Hidden Costs: How Imposter Syndrome Sabotages Your Time and Success

Now, let's talk about how imposter syndrome can wreak havoc on your time management and success. It can lead to procrastination, making you put off important tasks out of fear of failure. For example, imagine you're launching a new product but hesitate to promote it or reach out to potential clients, fearing rejection or criticism. This not only slows down your progress but also adds unnecessary stress and pressure.

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome: Practical Strategies for Growth and Resilience

So, how do we tackle imposter syndrome head-on and reclaim our time and success? First, let's recognize when it's creeping in. Pay attention to those moments when you feel like a fraud or doubt your abilities. By acknowledging these feelings, you can start to challenge them and shift your mindset.

Next, set realistic goals. Dreaming big is fantastic, but breaking those dreams down into smaller, actionable steps can make them more manageable. For instance, instead of aiming to launch a groundbreaking program overnight, focus on defining your core audience or securing initial beta sales. Each milestone brings you closer to your ultimate goal and boosts your confidence along the way.

Embracing Self-Compassion: Turning Setbacks into Opportunities

Now, let's talk about self-compassion. Give yourself permission to make mistakes and learn from them. Instead of berating yourself for perceived failures, approach them with curiosity and kindness. For example, if you make a typo in an email to a client, instead of spiraling into self-doubt, acknowledge the mistake, rectify it, and use it as an opportunity to show vulnerability and authenticity.

Building a Supportive Network: Finding Strength in Community

When you struggle with imposter syndrome, you tend to isolate and try to go it alone. Yes, I see you. You're hiding behind that Zoom screen with your camera turned off or trying to use social media to convert leads instead of having a conversation with a stranger. But that's 100% the opposite of how to stop spinning your wheels and wasting your precious time and energy. Instead, you need a supportive tribe - now! Whether it's mentors, peers, or friends who uplift you, having a strong support system can make all the difference. Joining a mastermind group or networking community can provide you with invaluable insights, encouragement, and accountability as you navigate the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

Conclusion: Empowering You to Thrive

So, here's to overcoming imposter syndrome and reclaiming your time and success! Remember, you're capable of incredible things, and your journey is just beginning. Embrace the challenges, celebrate the victories, and never forget that you're enough, just as you are.
